Ambassador: Russia, Venezuela discuss direct flights, supplies

BUENOS AIRES, May 14 (PRIME) -- Russia and Venezuela are discussing direct flights between the two states and loading the spare space of the planes with goods to ensure profitability of the flights, Russian ambassador to Venezuela Sergei Melik-Bagdasarov told PRIME on Thursday.

“At a meeting with Minister (of Tourism and Foreign Trade of Venezuela Felix) Plasencia, we discussed how we could secure the Moscow–Caracas–Moscow flights with useful commercial loading. It is obvious that passenger transportation will not ensure profitability of the flights at the first stage, so why should we not load the plane with goods of Venezuelan exports?” he said.

“It will not only be magnificent Caribbean rum, chocolate and cigars, but also gorgeous avocadoes that are large and contain no chemicals. How many exotic fruits are here, or flowers? And they are all organic.”

Commercial loading of direct flights has been demonstrated recently by charter airline Azur Air that flew a batch of Geropharm’s insulin to Venezuela. The carrier plans to use a passenger plane for another delivery of insulin to pick up Russians for a return flight, he said.
